Hindcasting Coastal Sea Levels in Morecambe Bay

چکیده

A method of variational data assimilation (by means of an adjoint model) is used to improve the boundary conditions for a high resolution depth-averaged two dimensional non-linear hydrodynamic model of Morecambe Bay. The modelled region contains a large inter-tidal area and has an unusually high tidal range. The assimilation procedure is robust and effective in reducing model error. This system performs considerably better than the previous simple method used for assimilating data into the same numerical model. Height errors as low as 10 cm (root mean square) can be achieved. 2001 Academic Press

Remote sensing of intertidal morphological change in Morecambe Bay , 3 U . K . , between 1991 and 2007

15 16 Tidal Flats are important examples of extensive areas of natural environment that remain 17 relatively unaffected by man. Monitoring of tidal flats is required for a variety of 18 purposes. Remote sensing has become an established technique for the measurement of 19 topography over tidal flats. A further requirement is to measure topographic changes in 20 order to measure sediment budgets...

Coastal foraminifera from the Iranian coast of Makran, Oman Sea (Chabahar Bay to Gawater Bay) as an indicator of tsunamis

Extreme coastal inundation associated with the 2004 Indian Ocean and 1945 Makran tsunamigenic-earthquakes highlight the risk of tsunamis to coastlines of the northern Oman Sea. Foraminifera have been used as indicators of paleotsunamis in the past where allochthonous tests, found in low-energy environments such as in coastal lagoons, ponds, and marshes, indicate marine overwash. In this study, ...

Diversity and distribution of larval and juvenile fish in nearshore waters of the Southeastern Caspian Sea and Gorgan Bay

Occurrence and distribution of larval and juvenile fish was investigated in nearshore waters of the southeastern Caspian Sea including the Gorgan Bay. Samples were collected during seven surveys using a fine mesh beach-seine in five sampling sites from July 2014 to June 2015. A total of 15500 individuals mostly juvenile were captured, representing 18 species from 8 families. Most juveniles belo...

Range extension of a vulnerable Sea horse Hippocampus fuscus (Actinopterygii: Syngnathidae) on the north-eastern Bay of Bengal coast

The study describes the range extension of the sea horse Hippocampus fuscus from the south to north east coastal waters of the India, Bay of Bengal. After 99 years since initial discovery, the Hippocampus fuscus was reported within the southern sector of the Chilika Lake. The extension range may be due to the East India Coastal Current of the Bay of Bengal and the predominance of extensive sea ...
